CHC Membership Taskforces
At the Strategic Planning Retreat of the CHC Board of Directors held in January 2007 there was considerable discussion about the ebb and flow of participation in the organization's standing committees. It was agreed that an alternative means of engaging our busy members was called for - one that was issues- and results oriented and directed to achieving discrete, time-focused goals. The BOD agreed to reconfigure the standing committees into (3) distinct task forces and are currently inviting their colleagues on the advisory Board of Governors as well across the entire membership to pledge a commitment to one or more of these groups:
POLICY LEADERSHIP TASK FORCE: 3rd Thursday of each month at 2pm This group is dedicated to establishing CHC as 'the housing policy leader' by taking positions and advocating on behalf of sensible land use planning, regulatory reform, and sustaining catalytic public funding (including a permanent source); CHC is distinct from other associations because members believe through constructive dialogue working across self-interest boundaries we can overcome policy stalemates. Chair: Carol Galante, BRIDGE Housing
MEMBERSHIP/FINANCIAL TASK FORCE: 4th Thursday of each month at 2pm The focus of this group is to double CHC's membership over the next two years, increase the proportion of private and public sector members, and actively engage the membership in regular roundtables and forums; the group will also be working to increase and diversify our funding sources to include foundation and corporate grants for the organization's education and advocacy efforts. Interim Chair: Terry Freeman, Klein Financial
BOARD & STAFF ENHANCEMENT TASK FORCE: 3rd Thursday of each month at 3pm In addition to promoting CHC as a facilitator of dialogue and builder of consensus on housing issues, the objective of this group is to grow the board involvement in sustaining CHC's operations (quarterly meetings, roundtables, lobby days, member forums) and in enhancing the reach of the organization in the Capitol and in Southern California. Chair: Jack Gardner, The John Stewart Company
The dates for the meetings of these Taskforces and other important CHC events are listed in the attachement at the bottom of this page. We encourage you to indicate your interest in serving on one or more of these task forces - please write to us at jloustau@calhsng.org and/or emackres@calhsng.org with your preference.
