Action Alert!: Urge the Governor to Support Innovative Housing Programs
Today CHC submitted a comment letter to Governor Schwarzenegger asking him to sign SB 586 (Dutton) that programs $100 million in funding for innovative housing programs including acquisition funding, matching funds for local housing trust funds, construction defect liability reform and an Innovative Homeownership Program.
As Maureen Higgins of the Affordable Housing Collaborative (and a CHC Governor) says:
"Ultimately, the Administration will be concerned about getting these monies out the door in a timely fashion to show that bond dollars result in housing units, and testing innovative ideas. They did not get most of what they wanted, so it is imperative for us to emphasize that this bill was a compromise that meets various unmet needs in the current market while still testing some innovative ideas. We should compliment HCD on getting bond dollars out the door so far and express our support for their ability to make these innovative programs work in a timely manner. "
It is important that we submit as many comments as to the Governor to show the volume of need and support for this unprecedented funding. Attached is CHC's comment letter. Feel free to use any language from it that you feel fit to craft your own letter. Also try to include how this funding would affect your projects. Fax your letters directly to the Governor's Legislative Unit at (916) 327-1009. Copy Chris Kahn, Legislative Secretary, and Curt Augustine, Deputy Legislative Secretary. Please also copy CHC and Maureen on any comments that you send in through email (info@calhsng.org and MPHiggins@shjlobby.com) or fax (415-677-4384 and 916.446.4202) so that we can deliver your comments to the Governor's staff in person.
Thank you for your action to protect this unprecedented funding.
