Completed last fall, Vineyard Crossing is a 145-unit affordable rental development featuring one-, two-, three-, and four-bedroom apartments.  Mid-Peninsula Housing Coalition (MPHC) obtained 11 acres of land from this City in southern Napa County in 2004 -- development on this parcel will also include Vineyard Place, a neighborhood of 45 affordable single family homes also built by MPHC.  The apartments are clustered into thirteen three-story buildings, and the property includes a large pool, multiple “tot lot” play areas, a community center with a computer lab, a fitness center, and a large multipurpose room.

The County of Napa helped to ensure that ten percent (at least 15) of the units were reserved for farm workers.

Lending and tax credit investing were done by Union Bank of California (a CHC Underwriter), Multi-family Housing Program funds through HCD, the Federal Home Loan Bank, Silicon Valley Bank, the City of American Canyon, as well as the County of Napa.  Pyatok Architects was a partner on the project.

An on-site, state-of-the-art child care facility is open to Vineyard Crossings residents as well as the general public and is run by Child Start, a local non-profit that provides child care to low-income families.  Lessons are provided in two classrooms, as well as in a customized outdoor play area that was designed to be an additional learning environment.

Vineyard Crossings is located in a newly developed area of American Canyon.  A bike trail that runs through the property will eventually connect to a planned “town center” that will be developed immediately to the north.

CHC will be honoring Mid-Peninsula Housing Coalition Executive Director Fran Wagstaff with a Lifetime Achievement Award at the May 15th Hall of Fame Awards Luncheon in Los Angeles.
