Opening later this month in Marin County, San Clemente Place is a 79-unit affordable apartment development that will showcase the commitment of CHC Member EAH Housing to sustainable development practices in close proximity to jobs, shopping, parks, schools and transportation. This development required the assembly of a former lumberyard and adjoining commercial uses, and represents an enormous upgrade in density, architectural design and construction quality to the land uses in the immediate area. It was built on a 2.74 acre infill location and engineered to conserve energy through efficient mechanical and electrical systems, and increased insulation. Furthermore, the complex is built ‘solar ready’ meaning that the wiring and roofing will be able to receive solar panels without retrofitting when funding becomes available. Layered financing for the project includes both tax-exempt bonds (CDLAC) and low-income housing tax credits (CTCAC) with
additional funding provided by Citibank and the MHP program (HCD).
Families, seniors and special needs households benefit from on-site services that connect all of the residents to a variety of activities and skills-training. Additionally, San Clemente Place offers 11 units targeted to households composed of homeless persons, or persons at-risk of homelessness, and developmentally disabled households. EAH Housing partners with two service providers, Homeward Bound of Marin and Opportunity for Independence (OFI), to provide services to the two respective target populations. EAH offers all of its residents computer training and a homework club; furthermore, there is an EAH Social Services Coordinator on-site to assist each of the agencies, and works together with them to integrate the special needs households into the San Clemente Family Homes community.
San Clemente Place will help mark the 40th Anniversary of EAH Housing. The eye-catching architecture includes two and three story buildings, and one, two and three bedroom apartments. surrounding an open courtyard and garden. The landscaped entryways and private balconies provide bay, mountain and garden views, bringing a sense of openness and natural beauty to the new community.
